Sealants are a preventive measure used to help reduce tooth decay in the deep grooves of back teeth. At the ages of 6 and 12 the first and second molars erupt into the mouth, respectively. The deep grooves in these teeth are difficult to keep clean and are notorious for harboring bacteria and debris. To smooth out these grooves our hygienists can place tooth-colored sealants on these teeth as soon as they are fully erupted. This procedure does not require any drilling and greatly improves your child’s chances of preventing decay in these areas.
