Unfortunately, cavities are a reality that most of us have to deal with at some point in time. Dr. Ritter uses tooth-colored filling material called composite to repair areas of decay instead of the silver amalgam that most people are familiar with. Mercury is a small component of these silver fillings but Dr. Ritter does not recommend removing them for this particular reason; the mercury is "bound" within the amalgam and is not leeching into your body.

For small cavities that are easily accessible on the chewing surfaces of teeth, Dr. Ritter prefers to use a painless type of “sand-blasting” to clean out the decay. Without the need for a drill you are spared the need to be numb. Such areas can be taken care of in only a matter of minutes! In addition to repairing areas of decay, composite can be used to improve the appearance and shape of teeth.
